AQF 3 - CHEMICAL USER TRAINING WORKSHOP

A workshop on the correct handling and use of Agricultural Chemicals.

Background

The, National Farmers Federation and the Rural Training Council of Australia introduced the National Farm Chemical User Training Programme in 1990. Their aim was to ensure that users of both plant and animal protection chemicals achieved established National Industry Competencies to enable the correct handling and accurate application of Farm Chemicals.

The present ChemCert course is an extension of this and is a co-operative venture between NSW Farmers Association, Rural Training Council, NSW TAFE, NSW Agriculture and Charles Sturt University and was first held in June of 1992.

The course, which is provided by industry professionals, recognises that registration and labeling of chemicals can minimise problems, however these safeguards ultimately depend upon the correct handling, efficient and accurate application of Agricultural Chemicals to ensure maximum safety to the applicator and environment.

The ChemCert Course is a workshop that offers essential training in the purchase, handling, application and disposal of Agricultural and Veterinary chemicals to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all those in and associated with the industry.

Participants who pass the Course will not only receive a Certificate of Accreditation which is Nationally Recognised and have their name placed on a State-wide register of accredited Farm Chemical users, but will also, as competent operators, benefit from reduced costs by the effective and efficient use of pesticides and their impact on the environment.

The course is available to anyone with an interest in making their workplace and the environment a safer place to be in. Assistance can be provided for those with low literacy or English language skills.
